EUSPIL Project is pleased to announce the launch of a new course titled “International Law, Outer Space and the European Union”, starting in February 2026 and coordinated by Prof. Claudia Cinelli.
Hosted by the University of Pisa and part of the Master’s Degree Programme “European Union, Global Processes and Sustainable Development”, the course aims to deepen academic and professional understanding of the governance of outer space, with a strong focus on the evolving role of the European Union as a global space actor.
The course provides a comprehensive overview of:
- Foundational principles and regulatory frameworks of international space law
- Contemporary challenges arising from new technological developments and the growth of private-sector activities in space
- EU’s space policies and their interaction with international law
- Key concepts such as due diligence, due regard, and safety zones
- Implications of new EU initiatives, including the EU Space Regulation and the EU Space Act
Through lectures, specialised seminars, and engagement with stakeholders from the European and international space community, students will acquire both theoretical foundations and practical competences relevant to policy-making, regulation, and legal analysis in the space sector.
